Hunger
Hunger
Across Connecticut, Lions are committed to addressing hunger and food insecurity in their local communities. Through hands-on service, fundraising, and partnerships, Lions clubs in Districts 23A, 23B, and 23C work year-round to ensure that individuals and families have access to nutritious food when they need it most.
Hunger affects children, seniors, veterans, and working families alike — and Lions respond with compassion, action, and consistency.
Connecticut Lions regularly organize food drives and pantry collections to support local food banks, pantries, and community meal programs.
These efforts include:
Collection of non-perishable food items
Seasonal and holiday food drives
Support for town and regional food pantries
Distribution of emergency food supplies
Lions often coordinate these efforts with schools, businesses, and community groups, helping maximize donations and reach those most in need.
In addition to food drives, many Lions clubs support or participate in community meal programs, ensuring access to warm, nutritious meals for those facing food insecurity.
Lions support hunger relief through:
Sponsoring or serving at community meals
Supporting soup kitchens and meal sites
Assisting senior nutrition programs
Helping fund meal preparation and food distribution
These programs provide nourishment — and just as importantly, dignity, connection, and care.
Lions recognize that hunger directly impacts children’s health, learning, and overall well-being. Across the districts, Lions support programs designed to help children and families access consistent nutrition.
These initiatives include:
School backpack and weekend food programs
Support for family food distributions
Holiday meal assistance for families in need
Partnerships with schools and youth organizations
By addressing hunger early, Lions help children thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
During times of crisis — such as severe weather, economic hardship, or unexpected emergencies — Connecticut Lions step in to provide immediate food assistance.
Emergency hunger relief efforts include:
Rapid-response food collections
Distribution of essential supplies
Support for displaced individuals and families
Collaboration with emergency response organizations
These efforts ensure communities are supported when they are most vulnerable.
Together, Connecticut Lions:
Address food insecurity through hands-on service
Support local and regional hunger relief organizations
Provide consistent assistance to vulnerable populations
Strengthen communities through compassion and partnership
Through coordinated efforts statewide, Lions help ensure that no one in Connecticut goes hungry.
